Rihla is inspired by the history of beads as one of the earliest forms of trade across the Middle East and North Africa — small objects that once carried immense value.
Long before paper currency, beads were exchanged because they were durable, difficult to craft, and deeply symbolic. Caravans traveling through the Levant, Arabia, Mesopotamia, and North Africa carried beads made of glass, carnelian, lapis lazuli, shell, and bone — each one shaped by hand and passed through deserts, ports, and markets.
A single bead could cross seas and empires before reaching its final wearer. In this way, beads became symbols of movement and connection — proof that the region was never isolated, but central to the world’s networks of trade, culture, and exchange.
The gold-plated beads of Rihla echo this legacy. Crafted in varying sizes and spaced with intention, they form an elegant hand chain that moves fluidly with the body, reflecting rhythm, continuity, and quiet strength. This piece reimagines beads not as ornament, but as history in motion — worn as a reminder that to carry beads is to carry the world with you.
